Tier 2 IT Help Desk Technician
Location: On-site – Columbia, SC
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (with potential for additional hours as needed)
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Job Type: Long-term contract with potential for permanent placement
We are a staffing agency assisting a state department in Columbia, SC, in hiring a Tier 2 IT Help Desk Technician. This role is ideal for an experienced IT professional with strong troubleshooting skills and a customer-focused approach. The technician will provide technical support, resolve escalated issues, and ensure the seamless operation of IT systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Tier 2 technical support, assisting end-users with hardware, software, and network-related issues
Troubleshoot and resolve escalated technical problems from the Tier 1 Help Desk
Manage user accounts and permissions through Active Directory, including password resets, group policy modifications, and account configurations
Perform software installations, updates, and configurations to ensure system stability and security
Set up, install, and maintain hardware components such as desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals
Document troubleshooting steps and solutions in the ticketing system to maintain accurate records
Work closely with internal teams and vendors to resolve complex IT issues efficiently
Follow IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance with security protocols and best practices
Provide end-user training and guidance on system usage and best practices
Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience in high-level Tier 1 or Tier 2 support, preferably in an enterprise or government setting
Strong working knowledge of Active Directory for user and group management
Hands-on experience with installations, configurations, and troubleshooting of hardware and software
Familiarity with remote desktop tools and IT ticketing systems
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for end-user support and documentation
A+ Certification is a plus but not required
